Magellan Roadmate 1200

It’s 2022, and people would say that they have Google Maps. But they don’t have a dedicated in-car GPS device. Furthermore, the authenticity and vibe of the old-school GPS devices can’t be matched by the regular Google Maps. Therefore, get yourself the Magellan RoadMate 1200, a solid entry-level in-car GPS gear. Also, it is a less complex device to operate for customers. Moreover, the pricing is $199.99, and you receive the clearest navigation couples with some additional functions. However, the Magellan GPS RoadMate tells a different narrative once on the road.

Magellan GPS Design

The Magellan RoadMate 1200 is a compact size handheld navigation system. Its measurements are 3.6 inches wide, 3.3 inches tall, and 0.6 inches deep, and it only weighs 4.9 ounces. To be precise, the size looks similar to that of a deck of cards that one can mount on a bicycle or use as a handheld navigator while walking. Although, there are no bicycle or pedestrian routing options in the system. Furthermore, the outer body is made of plastic which can be easily damaged or shattered.

However, the user interface is fairly simple, with easy-to-understand icons and buttons. The Magellan RoadMate 1200, like previous Magellan models, offers a QuickSpell feature to help with text entering. Furthermore, the QuickSpell feature dims any characters that don’t match any of the city or street names. Also, it goes through the database to recheck as you start typing the numbers and letters of an address on the virtual keyboard. An SD expansion card slot and a reset button are located on the right spine. While a small USB port and a single power button are on the left. Moreover, you get a small set of accessories with the device, including a car charger and a vehicle mount (windshield and dash).

Magellan Roadmate 1200 Features

Again it’s an old-school GPS device, a simple navigation tool; therefore, it doesn’t have any notifying bells and whistles. Furthermore, it includes an SD card with maps of the 48 contiguous United States. In addition, it has Hawaii and Puerto Rico and a database of 1.3 million other sites of interest. Moreover, you can input any specific address, an intersection, or a zip code, to plan your route. Also, a Trip Planner is available for a multi-destination course.

You can have more specialized searches like good restaurants by cuisine type. The POI feature will display the address and phone number if there are any available. The database in the Magellan Roadmate 1200 is thorough. Furthermore, an Exit POI feature will alert you to popular areas of interest near interstate exits. Moreover, the RoadMate 1200 can plan routes based on the quickest time, shortest distance, the least or greatest use of highways, and no toll roads. There’s a route simulator to offer you a walkthrough of the journey. Also, there is a diversion option if you want to skip a section. You can relax if you get off track along the way because the Maestro function does automatic route recalculation. Apart from that, you can also retrieve the coordinates of your present location by pressing the tow truck icon.

2D (tracking) and 3D (night or day color) maps are available. You can also receive a list of navigation or a split-screen view that shows your 3D map and your next move. The Magellan RoadMate 1200 also has written and voice-guided turn-by-turn directions to complement the visual aids.
